Position Description:

The Lewis Research Group at Harvard University is seeking a research assistant to aid in an ambitious project in the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and additive manufacturing.  The candidate should have a strong background in hardware and/or materials and process development and a strong interest in robotics.  The goal will be to publish results in high tier venues.  Ideal position for someone looking for research experience and publish before grad school.

Qualifications:

-At least a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or a related field

-Knowledge and experience in materials science or chemistry and process development

-Ability; AND/OR: Knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering/electrical engineering with experience in mechatronics

-Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes

-Strong communication skills, including interpersonal communication, the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts, and strong organizational skills

 

Preferred

-Understanding of basic robotics concepts

-High-level knowledge of soft robotics

-Coding experience (especially in Python and/or C/C++)

-Experience working with gcode

-Strong machine building experience

-Computational simulation knowledge (either ability to use or develop simulation tools)

-Master's degree in an engineering discipline

Position Duties:

-Developing new additive manufacturing processes for applications in robotics, including new 3D printer hardware and software

-Researching new material formulations for 3D printing

-Building, testing, and iterating on robot prototypes

-Working with a computational researcher to bridge the gap between simulation and fabrication

-Aiding in writing research articles for high impact conferences and journals

-Developing complementary robotics software packages (if interested)

 

The position is 1 year (starting almost immediately) with possibility for renewal
